It used to be said, "wherever I lay my hat, that's my home" *, but
today its "wherever I lay my computer, that's my desk".
In
a world of Identity Theft, Spyware, Keyboard Loggers and Trojan
Viruses, how SECURE is your DESK?
Anti-Virus company, Trend Micro, report that they are now seeing a
new virus every 7 seconds which amounts to more new
viruses in a month, than they saw in their previous 20 year history.
No longer is a simple Anti-virus software package and a firewall sufficient
to protect your network from new viruses being released at such a rate.
Today, viruses and malware are "Designer
Made" and distributed by cyber criminals, with the primary purpose
of stealing data from computers. To stay ahead
of the anti-virus companies, they constantly release new variants
of Viruses, Trojans and Spyware.
Anti-Virus programs are dependant on signature
files (the
file that tells the Anti-Virus Software how to detect a virus)
to detect most new viruses. Typically it takes between 3 and 24
hours, for a detection signature to be created, for each new virus
that is discovered. With the speed of today's internet, this means
that your
computer is unprotected against these new attacks during the critical
period - the first few hours of the virus' release.
If your computer is contaminated by a new virus before the Anti-Virus signature
arrives, it could end up relaying
Spam around the world and have a keystroke logger downloaded
to your computer recording every character that you type for
a fraudster
to analyse. Even
when the Anti-Virus signature update does arrive, it often won't
detect a virus that has embbed itself
into your computer prior to the update, and you
will remain unaware of the problem. Your PC may appear
to function as usual, Virus Scans may detect nothing
and the only tell tale sign
being that
the computer works a little slower.
To address these issues and to protect computers from
being compromised,
SecureDesk Ltd have launched the range of SaaS "Security
as a Service" products for
Home computers.
