Regular Backups
When you have identified the key critical data
that your company possesses, it is important to maintain this data
in a way that ensures:-
- confidentiality:
protecting information from unauthorised access and disclosure
- integrity:
safeguarding the accuracy and completeness of information and processing
methods;
- availability:
ensuring that information and associated services are available
to authorised users when required.
Backing up data is a key part of this and must achieve
the following:-
- Regular Backups - typically one
for every week day plus a separate backup copy for each Friday of
the month,
in this
way you can recover any file up to one month old.
- A recent backup must always be held offsite -
In this way if a fire or explosion occurred the data can be restored
onto a new system.
- Secure Backups - Backup's
must be kept safely, so that data cannot be extracted from them
by an unauthorised third
party, this can be helped by using encryption.
